Family Engagement Policy
At Forest Hills, it is our policy to give families support and tools to help their students at home. We will do this by:
- Making sure you have a chance to learn about what your child will be taught this year.
- Helping you to understand how we measure learning in our school.
- Helping you to understand how the state of North Carolina measures learning.
- Showing you how to use the materials that we give you to support your students’ learning at home.
- Partnering with New Hanover County School district staff to make sure we have access to the best training and materials for you.
At Forest Hills, it is our policy to make sure that all our families have a voice in building a great school. We will do this by:
- Inviting you to serve on our School Improvement Team, so you can give us ideas about how to improve your child’s education.
- Sending out parent surveys, so that we know what you think is important.
- Responding to your suggestions and questions in a timely and respectful way.
- Partnering with New Hanover County School district staff to make sure we are following all the guidelines for family engagement.
At Forest Hills, it is our policy to make sure you know about what is happening in our school and with your student. We will do this by:
- Holding an Annual Meeting to tell you about our Title I Schoolwide program.
- Making sure that you have at least one weeks’ notice about any family meetings or activities we have planned.
- Making sure you have timely access to student work and grades updated in PowerSchool.
- Making sure that we keep track of how and when we are contacting you in your preferred way.
- Making sure everything we provide is in a language you understand.
- Partnering with New Hanover County School district staff to make sure we are building positive relationships.
At Forest Hills, it is our policy to make it easier and important for you to attend events and activities. When planning these things, we will:
- Schedule them on days and times that are convenient for families.
- Ask for your ideas and opinions about scheduling events about the learning topics.
- Provide translation services
- Partnering with New Hanover County Schools district staff to make sure we are spending our family engagement budget wisely.
